Activities

Whole-Person, Wellbeing Focus

As part of our whole-person, wellbeing approach to care, our activities programmes are a central part of the day-to-day running of Hawkinge House and our residents’ lives.

Residents are encouraged to take part in communal activities in the Lounge everyday where appropriate. We also have a dedicated ‘Sensory Lounge’ for those with more cognitive impairment who may need more sensory-focused, one-to-one social stimulation and support.

Designed to Empower Residents

Our dedicated Activities staff organise both mentally and physically stimulating group activities, such as exercise classes, knitting clubs and cooking classes, which are tailored to our residents’ interests and needs.

Our activities are designed to empower residents to feel good about themselves. Whilst encouraging residents to learn new skills, move their bodies and socialise with new people, we never ask more than what residents are capable of.

One-to-One Companionship

We appreciate that some of our residents feel more comfortable and confident socialising one-to-one. Our care workers cater not only to the physical needs of our residents, but their social needs too. Carers are encouraged to sit down with residents one-to-one, to do activities with them and to ask about their lives and interests, as part of our holistic and wellbeing approach to care. As over half our residents do not receive regular visits from friends and relatives, and some none at all, this forms a crucial aspect of care at Hawkinge House.

The Village Green

Our Village Green area offers a familiar, safe and welcoming social space for everyone at Hawkinge House to enjoy.

Residents, their family and friends can come and go as they please in an environment that mirrors a traditional village setting. They can enjoy a soft drink in our local ‘pub’ or treat themselves to a quarter pound of sweeties in our sweet shop and post office. If they fancy a little pampering, the Village Green boasts a lovely new hair salon and nail bar. There’s also a dedicated arts and crafts area which offers a wide range of daily activities, including bread making.
